4 Ways To Style A Floral Skirt

Floral skirts are a fun and versatile way to brighten up your wardrobe. See 4 different ways to style a floral skirt by clicking the link!

Before I had kids, I dressed up a lot more.  I wore heels and my skirts and dresses had less spandex in them.  There were days I’d wake up and think, “I’ll wear a skirt/dress today, just for fun!”  Fast forward to today and my daily wardrobe consists of jeans and a t-shirt with a cardigan thrown over the top with flats (nothing wrong with that).  Because when I’m chasing two kids around, running errands, playing on the ground or in the yard, I need to feel like what I’m wearing can keep up with my lifestyle.  At the same time, I want to look and feel put together and what I wear often affects how I feel.

I received this skirt in exchange for my review and promotion but all thoughts and opinions are 100% mine.  This post also contains affiliate links.

Think about it: you know you’re going to be spending a lazy day at home and what do you put on?  Comfy bottoms and a t-shirt.  Going out with your friends or spouse?  Clothes that you love and look good in.  Running errands?  Definitely some flats or tennis shoes.  I’ll be totally honest: most days I don’t feel like getting all the way put together with my make up on and hair done.  I’m happy if I got to take a shower before the kids start making messes or trying to fix their own breakfast (which usually results in the aforementioned messes).  But the days where I put on something that feels a little bit nicer also lifts my mood and makes me feel better about myself.  One of the those “somethings” that I put on? A floral skirt.

I like to get the most use out of my clothes as possible which means that I love pieces that are transitional or that I can wear year round.  Floral skirts are one of those pieces and they are quickly becoming a favorite of mine.  With the variety of patterns and colors available, it’s just a matter of finding one that fits your style (and lifestyle).

Today I want to share 4 ways you can style a floral skirt.  My hope is that you will be inspired to look in your closet and refresh your wardrobe as we move into a new season.  With the exception of this skirt, I had everything else already in my closet.  I didn’t buy any accessories, shoes or tops to go with it.  Each outfit is one I could easily wear and move around in while taking care of my children, which for me is key, since I have them with me most of the time.

So scroll through the pictures below and see if anything jumps out at you.  I’ve included looks you can wear to the office, meetings, church, date night, running errands or even a day at the park with your kids.

Did you find something you love?  The style of skirt I got is called the Ashlyn Floral Pencil Skirt in blue (also comes in black).  I love the way it fits because it allows me to move in it and it doesn’t ride up at all!  This particular skirt has a little bit of spandex in it and is made of a thicker scuba-like material.  I am 5’9″ and wear a size 5 so I got the Medium to give me a little more length.

If you’ve been searching for the perfect floral skirt (or just love buying more of them), you have to check out the amazing sale that Cents of Style is running this weekend as part of their Fashion Friday!  They have over 10 patterns to choose from and each one is only $19.95 plus free shipping with the code: FLORALSTORY.  This deal runs from today, 2/17/17 thru 2/19/17.  To take advantage of this deal, click HERE to go straight to the Fashion Friday deal page and see all the skirts you can choose from.

Winter 2017 Walmart Beauty Box Review

Winter 2017 Walmart Beauty Box Review--Is it worth $5?

*I am reviewing this box by choice and have not received it for free, nor have I received any other compensation from Walmart.  All opinions are my own.*

Before I start today’s post, I just have to take a moment and say thank you for the overwhelming response I received to sharing my miscarriage story.  I received so many texts, Facebook messages, post comments and phone calls from people expressing their sadness at what I’ve been facing and their love for me and my family.  But in addition to this, I also heard from many women who have had miscarriages and said that reading my story gave them feelings of hope and encouragement.  At the risk of sounding cliche, knowing that I was able to help at least one person feel like they aren’t alone in their struggles makes it feel worth it.  I am hopeful for the future.

Today I am doing a review of the Winter 2017 Walmart Beauty Box.  I actually received it a couple of weeks ago, but due to circumstances outside my control (see above), I haven’t had time to adequately review enough of the products until this week.  (I’ve also done reviews on the products in the Summer 2016 and Fall 2016 Beauty Boxes.)

What is the Walmart Beauty Box?

For $5, you receive one beauty box every three months filled with various beauty items ranging from full size to travel size to sample size.  You can cancel the subscription at any time.

I’ve had my subscription for two years and I’ve enjoyed the items enough not to cancel.  Some boxes are better than others, but the items that I’ve received have been worth more than the $5 it costs for the box itself.  It’s fun to get a little surprise in the mail every few months and I can totally see the appeal of other monthly/quarterly subscription boxes.

Here’s what I got this time around:

Winter 2017 Walmart Beauty Box Review--Is it worth $5?
  • Tressemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo (travel size)
  • Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer (travel size)
  • Garnier Whole Blends Refreshing Shampoo/Conditioner (single use)
  • Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Cream (travel size)
  • L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream (single use)
  • Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Body Lotion (travel size)
  • Dove Morrocan Argan Body Wash (travel size)
  • AMLA Legend 10-in-1 Blow Out Elixer (single use)

My Review:

  • Tressemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo–In the Fall 2016 beauty box, I received a travel size can of Batiste dry shampoo.  I really liked it and have used it over the last few months as needed.  I was a little surprised that they included another dry shampoo in this month’s box but it doesn’t hurt to have some on hand when the Batiste runs out.  I’ve used this one only once since I got it and it seemed to do a pretty good job of giving my hair volume and decreasing the greasy look.  I liked the smell too.
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturize–In the Summer 2016 beauty box, I received a single use sample of Nivea’s In-Shower body lotion.  There was only enough for one use, but it did seem to moisturize my skin really well which surprised me.  With it being winter, dry skin is a problem so I was curious to see how the Curel in shower body lotion would measure up.  I like that they gave me a travel size and I’ve used it a couple of times since receiving it.  One thing I like better about the Curel is that I didn’t have to rinse it off after applying where the Nivea I had to take the extra step of rinsing.  To see if it would moisturize my skin, I didn’t apply any lotion after my shower.  The next day, my skin didn’t feel dry or itchy so I think the lotion did it’s job.
    • Would I recommend it: YES, although I preferred the smell of the Nivea lotion
  • Garnier Whole Blends Refreshing Shampoo/Conditioner–I’ve purchased and used Garnier shampoo and conditioner before, but not this exact one.  Supposedly this formula helps your hair be more shiny, but unfortunately it’s only a single use sample so it would be hard to know if it helps with this in the long run unless you buy the full size.  I haven’t tried it out yet, but the Green Apple & Green Tea scent should smell pretty good.
    • Would I recommend it: UNDECIDED
  • Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Cream–All day long, I am washing my hands for one reason or another, so they tend to get really dry, especially in the winter.  The other night after washing the dishes, I put on a little Bath and Body Works lotion I had in the kitchen, but it did nothing for me.  I remembered the hand cream from the beauty box and put a little on my hands.  It absorbed really well without any residue and immediately my hands started feeling better.  The next day, my hands still felt moisturized.  I was pretty impressed.
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream–As I get older, my skin just doesn’t quite recover the way it used to from the sun or wind or dry air so using something that would help renew my skin sounds great.  There are two sample size packets: Golden Serum and Day Cream.  There aren’t any instructions on the little card to tell me what order I should apply them or anything.  I’m guessing I could probably get a couple of uses out of each packet, but I doubt that will be enough to really tell a difference.  I will update once I’ve tried it out though.
    • Would I recommend it: UNDECIDED
  • Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Body Lotion–I’ll be totally honest: I hate the smell of anything from Burt’s Bees that I’ve tried, so this sample is useless to me personally because I know I will never use it.  I will probably give it to my husband to keep in his car or at work so he has something for when his hands get dry and doesn’t smell girly.
    • Would I recommend it: NO
  • Dove Morrocan Argan Body Wash–Apparently Walmart likes to send out a Dove body wash with every beauty box because I’ve received one in the Summer 2016, Fall 2016 and now the Winter 2017 box.  I’ve used this body wash a couple of times and like the smell, but don’t think that it does anything special for my skin compared to what I’m currently using (Olay).
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • AMLA Legend 10-in-1 Blow Out Elixer–I’ve never heard of this brand before so I have nothing to go off of besides what it says on the packet.  I’ve used other brands of heat protection hair lotions and I do think they help.  I haven’t tried this one out yet, but I’m hoping it will give my poor winter hair a little boost and seal in some moisture.
    • Would I recommend it: UNDECIDED

Summer 2016 Walmart Beauty Box Review

Summer 2016 Walmart Beauty Box Review--Is it worth $5?

*I am reviewing this box by choice and have not received it for free, nor have I received any other compensation from Walmart.  All opinions are my own.*

A year and a half ago, I got an email from Walmart about signing up for a quarterly/seasonal beauty box.  It boasted full size beauty products and lots of other great samples for free plus $5 shipping.  I was intrigued so I signed up with the knowledge that I could cancel the subscription at any time if I didn’t think the products I received were worth the $5.

Since then, I’ve received a new beauty box every three months filled with goodies.  Some boxes have been better than others, which I think is to be expected, but overall I’ve enjoyed getting them.  It’s been fun to get a little surprise in the mail and I can totally see the appeal of subscribing to other beauty boxes/monthly subscription boxes.

This last week, I got my most recent beauty box in the mail.  I’d received an email from Walmart letting me know that my card had been charged and my box was on its way with a tracking number.  When I got it, I took it into my bathroom to open it up and shut the door because my kids would have opened it up and pulled it out faster than a kid stealing candy. *wink*

Here’s what I got:

  • Goody SlideProof hair elastics (full size)
  • Lady Gaga Fame Black Fluid perfume (sample size)
  • Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs leg makeup (sample size)
  • Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair lotion (travel size)
  • Nivea In-Shower Cocoa Butter Body Lotion (single use) w/coupon
  • Simple Micellar Cleansing Water (single use)
  • Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Diamond Color & Radiance Shampoo and Conditioner (travel size)
  • Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant toothpaste (travel size) w/coupon
  • Incoco Coconut Nail Art (full size)
Summer 2016 Walmart Beauty Box Review--Is it worth $5?

My review:

  • Goody SlideProof hair elastics–I actually received these in a beauty box in the fall or winter of last year, but I really like them so I was happy to have more that I didn’t have to pay full price for in the store (retail is around $4).  They hold a ponytail in all day because of the little rubber grippers and I love them.
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • Lady Gaga Fame Black Fluid perfume–I was a little skeptical about this perfume and sprayed a little bit of it on my wrist before jumping in the shower so I could wash it off in case I didn’t like it.  I was pleasantly surprised because it’s pretty subtle (unlike Lady Gaga herself) and the scent actually stayed on my wrist even after my shower.
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs leg makeup–Leg makeup??  I didn’t even know this was a thing.  I’ve heard of self tanner and tinted lotion but not leg makeup.  To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ll be trying this out any time soon, especially since it’s summer time and I tan very easily.  So using a product to make my legs look darker isn’t really useful to me.  Maybe I’ll keep it and try it out in the winter when I don’t really need it and see how I like it then.
    • Would I recommend it: UNDECIDED
  • Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair lotion–In the summer, I wear flip flops or have bare feet all. the. time.  As a result, I get callouses and my heels sometimes crack.  I haven’t tried this lotion out yet, but I plan on using it on my feet, knees and elbows this summer since they get the most dry.  Vaseline is a pretty good brand when it comes to keeping in moisture, so I would expect it to work well.
    • Would I recommend it: UNDECIDED
  • Nivea In-Shower Cocoa Butter Body Lotion–I brought this into the shower with me to try out after I sprayed the Lady Gaga perfume on.  I’ve never tried an in-shower body lotion before so I wasn’t sure how I’d like it.  The instructions said to wash your body like normal, rub it onto wet skin, then rinse it off while still in the shower.  Because it was only a single use sample, there wasn’t much in the pouch.  I used it all up and barely had enough for my entire body.  I dried off and got out my regular lotion, but was surprised to find that I actually didn’t need it.  The in-shower body lotion had moisturized my skin just as well, if not better, than putting lotion on after getting out.  Not only that, but it kept my skin soft throughout the day.  Not bad, Nivea.
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • Simple Micellar Cleansing Water–I have a few different face cleansers that I rotate through.  Most of them have little microbeads and/or an astringent and are either liquid or gel/cream.  Plus I also have a separate eye makeup remover.  I was curious to see how this cleansing water would work for me so I tried it out.  I squirted a little on a cotton square and started wiping my face.  The makeup came right off.  I used it on my entire face (except my eyes, even though you can use it on your eyes).  I liked that it felt like water, but I didn’t have to scrub to get the makeup off.
    • Would I recommend it: YES
  • Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Diamond Color & Radiance Shampoo and Conditioner–Honestly, I don’t know when I’ll get around to using these samples.  I usually just pack these away in a bin I have for sample/travel size shampoos/conditioners that I pull out and pack with me on vacations, camping trips or if we have company.
    • Would I recommend it: NO
  • Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant toothpaste–I’ve bought this brand of toothpaste before and haven’t been overly impressed.  It is usually too grainy or the flavor is a little off.  This will go in the same bin as the sample size shampoos/conditioners for use at a later date.
    • Would I recommend it: NO
  • Incoco Coconut Nail Art–I’m really excited to try this product out.  I was happy to see that it was full size.  Each strip is long enough that it’s possible to do all ten fingers and toes, even though there are only 12 strips total.  I’ve tried out other store-bought press on nail polish products before and they usually peel off after a couple of days.  If these stay on, I’ll be really impressed.
    • Would I recommend it: UNDECIDED (will update when I try it out)
